hubert lepka (dr. iur., born 1958), director and choreographer of his network “lawine torrèn”, lives and works near salzburg. together with architects, light-designers, dancers, authors, videographers and actors he is creating drama that emerges on location rather than in illusionary set design. after studying law (austrian) and music (opera) he keeps working in the field of contemporary dance since 1989. projects like HANNIBAL, BABY JET, SCHAFBERG 1911 are often located on a border triangle of art, economy and science.

"choreography cannot be constricted, however. it is all about the feeling how movement is perceived, every movement. it was due to our sense for kinaesthesia and our ability for being empathetic that we fully understood our teddy bears - today, we admire the elegance of a crane. the increased upright - the genuine axis of the wish for elevation in dance - forms the basis for artful elevation. conducted by humans, cars, diggers, cranes, aeroplanes, whichever vehicles, become the electric amplifier of a dance that erupts like rock 'n' roll from the stifling air of the theatre, its space self-referential and formatted too tightly. i understand drama as an evolutionary creature. art acts on the basis of memetic instances: copy, variation and selection form the algorithm of the system art, which unremittingly saves beauty anew, without signification and orientation.

lawine torrèn sees itself as part of an attention industry, catalysing global economy and steering processes instead of destructing them."
